Tour Descriptions

City Tour / Freedom Trail

Thursday, September 22

Explore the history of America’s oldest ship the USS CONSTITUTION, through participatory exhibits, computer simulations, and art and preservation galleries. Visit the Museum store for mementos. As time permits, tour OLD IRONSIDE herself. Enjoy free time and lunch on your own at Quincy Market, also called Faneuil Hall Marketplace. There are over 100 stores, pushcarts, restaurants, and plenty of entertainment. Continue on a guided driving tour of Boston. See some of the most famous sites along the Freedom Trail including Boston Common, the forty-eight acre park where the British mustered for Lexington and Concord, the site of the Boston Massacre, the Old North Church where the two lanterns were hung, “One if by Land, Two if by Sea”, and other points of interest.

Shear Madness at the Charles Playhouse

Thursday, September 22

The Charles Playhouse Stage II is home to the entertaining show, Shear Madness, Boston’s hilarious whodunit murder mystery. Someone’s been killed in the apartment above a Newbury Street hairstyling salon, and the police haven’t got a clue… take a stab at catching the killer. It’s a riotous, improvisational plot with topical humor where you spot the clues, you question the suspects, and you solve the crime! The ending is different every night so you’ll never see the same show twice. You are guaranteed to have great time!

BATTLESHIP COVE

Friday, September 23

Start the morning exploring Battleship Cove. Enjoy a buffet lunch in the Ward Room. Tour all nine decks of the USS MASSACHUSETTS, otherwise know as the “BIG MAMIE”, and visit the National Destroyermen’s Museum aboard the USS JOSEPH P. KENNEDY, Jr., which saw action in both Korea and Vietnam. The only two PT Bosts from WWII are also on display here. And don’t miss the SS LIONFISH, a perfectly maintained WWII attack Submarine.

The North Shore

Saturday, September 24

The Verdict…Guilty! The Salem Witch Hysteria of 1692 is an American tragedy. One by one, nineteen innocent victims were marched to Gallows Hill to be hanged. Witness the historically accurate dramatization of the Salem witch trials, experience the suffering of the accused and you be the Judge. Next visit Salem’s most visited museum and the new exhibit, Witches Evolving Perceptions. The multi-sensory “time machine” will take you back 300 years to a time of hysteria. Proceed to Gloucester, still a substantial fishing port. The coastal scenery is unsurpassed. Arrive at the Gloucester House Restaurant for lunch, including your choice of Baked Scrod or Grilled Chicken Breast with salad, dessert, and beverages. Following lunch, take a short trip to Rockport. Free time for shopping on your own at Bearskin Neck, a narrow peninsula of one-way alleys lined with galleries, antique stores, and old houses.
